Who we are
Mortmain Studio is an independent workshop. We do not give out names. We work in the dark on purpose — not because we hide, but because the work matters more than the worker.
We are interested in worlds that remember. In combat that asks for skill, not coin. In the kind of dark fantasy that does not flinch from its own weight.
Squalor is our first game. It will not be our last.
What we believe
The games we love are the ones that respect the player. We have watched too many promising worlds turn into machines for extracting money from the people who love them. We do not want to build one of those.
So we wrote a few promises down, before there was anything to break them on. We mean to keep them.
Our promises
No pay-to-win
Every blade in Squalor is earned. None is bought. No money you spend will ever pull a sword from a poorer player's hand.
No loot boxes. No gambling.
We will not ask you to pay for the chance of something. No randomised rewards. No gacha. If you give us money, you know exactly what you receive.
No NFT. No blockchain. No crypto.
These have no place in a game about steel and dust. They will not be in Squalor. They will not be in anything we make.
One purchase. The full game.
Buy the game, get the game. Updates and patches come with it. We do not split the world behind a paywall.
